So you believe it is possible, you believe you are worthy, and you want to recovery for you; now what?
Now you need to follow the process of becoming a sword. I'll explain. In order to make a quality sword you need three things. You need a forge, a hammer, and a piece of steel. The forge is used to create an environment that the steel can be 'changed' in. The hammer is what is used to help 'change' the steel, and the steel ... well the steel is you.
You can not do much changing if the forge is not hot enough, you can't do much shaping with a small hammer, and it will not be a quality sword unless the steel is a quality steel.
Stoking the fire of change!
So how does it all start?
Start a fire and burn all ties with anyone and everyone who sells, uses, gets high, fades out, trips, or even talks about using on a regular basis. They are NOT your friends if they bring it around you, offer it to you, come around high or otherwise while you are trying to get clean. The last thing most users want is someone else getting out of hell when they can not! They will bring you 'gifts', hook you up for 'free', and do whatever they can to keep you down there with them. Do NOT fall for it!
I need to stress this point, so follow me for a second.
What are the possible outcomes of drug addiction? Recovery, Prison, Death ... end of list. So your 'friends' are either trying to put you in jail or kill you. THOSE ARE NOT FRIENDS! And yes I hear some of you out there; "but what if its family"? Well, I suppose that is why the highest murder rate is by those that knew their attacker. Relapsing and having an overdose doesn't make you any less dead because you did it with your mom, dad, bother, sister, cousin, aunt or whatever. If you keep people around you who use, you are playing Russian Roulette with your life. As it is not IF you will use, but WHEN! And we all know the stories of those people who used, one to many times and paid the ultimate price!
If they really are "friends" or loved ones, they will understand that you must currently choose to love them from a distance! In all actuality, if they are using on a regular basis they probably won't even know you are gone ... unless you used to be part of their hookup.
You do not have to stay away forever, but in the first little bit it is very advisable to not have them in your daily life. What is one of the main reasons, beside the fact that they could have drugs in front of you, offer them to you, remind you of using, and on and on? They WILL end up stressing you our or pissing you off! And what is the number one reason for using in 99% of all AA or NA groups? Damn skippy, "stress". So keep a healthy distance for now.
