Hello everyone!
I want to try and explain how addiction might have come into your life with something we all should be a little more educated on ... love. So, has anyone ever heard of 'love at first sight'? What about someone you knew for a long time, and then just 'poof' one day your feelings changed for them! What makes you keep thinking about someone you KNOW is bad for you? Why do you go back and try to work things out with someone you left because the relationship was so bad, for so long? Have you ever skipped work, lied to your friends or family, or done crazy things that you wouldn't normally do ... for the love of your life? These questions, should show you in some way how our 'reward system' can be hijacked! We don't think clearly, rationally, or even correctly at times. We will lie, and make excuses to others (and ourselves) to keep them in our life. This is ONE part of addiction. The issue is there are a multitude of others to deal with as well. However, the next time you think ... "well I didn't choose this" remember that you didn't really "choose" who you feel in love with either ... your brain did that for you; and so it is with addiction! I hope this helps some! Chad
