Hello Again Sports Fans!
When a clinician cares more about getting your diagnosis correct and just judging you by that diagnosis ... they are not listening to the root cause of why you have it ... and therefore your likelihood of ever getting better is slim to none as you aren't working on changing what needs to be changed! For example, if you have a piece of glass in your leg, and I diagnose you as having chronic pain ... and give you coping skills to deal with the pain, and meds to help you manage the pain, and talk to you about how you feel about the pain ... NONE OF THAT SHIT is actually doing anything about the fucking glass! Its the same damn thing with most in mental health, especially addiction! In addiction everyone wants to talk about the DOC or drug of choice. BUT the issues is, the drug itself isn't the fucking problem. The problem is WHY the drug is a problem to begin with! For example, say you have an issue with drinking. I would say that you don't have an issue with alcohol but an issue with how you see yourself! The alcohol is just something that we can 'diagnose' and bill. The real issue might be that you don't think you are good enough or you are beating yourself up for something you did in your past or whatever. But all the addiction treatment centers are just focused on giving you coping skills to deal with the pain in your leg and totally missing the fucking piece of glass that is sticking out! This concept, although seemingly simple enough, is beyond the mental grasp of the majority of mental health professional I have talked with. They argue that they MUST have a diagnosis in order to help people ... yet preachers, teachers, friends, relatives, and even kids help people all the time without a fucking diagnosis ... not to mention all the Easter Practitioners that don't even believe in a diagnosis. Until the profession cares more about helping people excess in their lives, like with Positive Psychology, instead of trying to figure out what is "wrong" with people ... your loved ones to include yourself, will keep running around chasing your tail instead of getting down to real treatment, which looks a lot more like a conversation than a treatment plan. May your life always be whatever you say it is!
